West Essex Amateur Radio Club members operated a special event amateur radio station from the President Grover Cleveland Birthplace on Saturday May 9th. Bob N2NYR and Harold W2IBM setup a rope in a tree for the antenna on the Friday afternoon before. Six club members met at 9 AM on Saturday to finish setting up the 40 meter/20 meter Super Loop antenna and Yaesu FT-1000 station. We were on 40 meter LSB by 10 AM. Ten people visited the station. Most were amateur radio operators. After watching, or operating, the radio station many toured Cleveland's Birthplace. Lee, Alanís (K2AJV) son, made seven contacts. This was his first time on-the-air. Overall we made 47 contacts: 30 on 40 meters, 10 on 20 meters, and seven on 2 meters.
